" I’m Temidayo, a mom and the Founder of Ade + Ayo. I design and curate a collection of beautifully crafted pieces that make the African aesthetic practical for the littlest among us, while keeping things modern and affordable for parents. A Nigerian Canadian living in the US, my Nigerian culture has been a constant source of pride and joy for me through all of the changes in my life. When I found out I was pregnant with my first baby I was eager to fill his world with pieces that reminded me of home and would introduce my son to the beauty of African cultures. My search for these pieces revealed a huge gap - I couldn’t find clothes in traditional African colors and patterns that would be comfortable enough for daily wear and any “African-inspired” nursery decor either equated African design with a safari theme or was too expensive. I was saddened to see this but determined to provide a solution, so Ade + Ayo was born.

I absolutely love the impact Ade + Ayo is having in people’s lives and the creative freedom I get to experience as a business owner. Launching and running a business is definitely quite challenging. I’ve had moments of re-evaluating my decision to be an entrepreneur - working for someone else and getting a steady paycheck is much easier! But I wouldn’t trade this opportunity for anything. It’s immensely rewarding to see my handwork and care bring joy to others. I also believe so deeply in the mission of Ade + Ayo and I derive a lot of fulfillment from working toward that mission.

My biggest regret would be letting fear prevent me from taking a leap and trusting myself earlier. I was an attorney before launching Ade + Ayo and I had to do a lot of mindset work to trust that I could succeed as a creative entrepreneur.

In 5 years, I see Ade + Ayo bringing the African aesthetic to all parts of children’s lives. I hope to grow our community, have physical spaces for gathering and learning, and expand the types of products we can offer."
